Nine virtual tours to watch in isolation

Apr 26, 2020

With fewer than 20 new Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases per day now in Australia, these positive results show we are definitely on the track to flattening the curve and getting our lives back to normal. But we cannot become complacent; we must continue the good work with social distancing and staying at home, where possible.

As we are increasingly spending more time at home and on the internet, we thought we would ease the burden in isolation a little and provide you with some fun virtual tours for you and the kids.

Although these ideas don’t get you out of the house, it does give the kids (and parents!) a break from online gaming and some interesting topics to learn and talk about. Plus, as travel plans are on hold, you can explore Australia from the privacy of your own home.

1. Taronga Zoo

For only $10, support the zoo to stay operational through these difficult times on TarongaTV. Spend some time with the animals and watch them being fed.

Visit >

2.Phillip Island Penguins

Watch the penguins in their burrows in real time. If they are too shy to appear, you can watch pre-recorded videos or come back later!

Visit >

3.The Louvre

Although further afield, the Paris Louvre has online tours of some of its exhibitions and galleries, including its Egyptian antiquities collection.

Visit >

4.Science Works

One for the science lovers, explore the range of family-friendly activities inspired by the collections and exhibitions, all from the comfort of your home.

Visit >

5.Sydney Opera House

Although they are not providing live tours, this is a great opportunity to teach the kids about this famous Australian landmark through their interactive website.

Visit >

6.Sea Life Sydney Aquarium

Get up close with your favourite sea creatures, including penguins, pigs and sea turtles. They also have other fun activities for kids including Coral Reef colouring in.

Visit >

7. Uluru National Park

8.Luna Park

Visit >

9.Great Wall of China.

Check out China's most famous attraction and wonder of the world, considered to be one of the most impressive ancient structures on the planet.

If you have a specific interest that is not on this list, just 'google it' and you might find that they are also doing virtual tours.

Enjoy, stay safe and look after each other!

If you have symptoms of Covid-19 and have been tested either through your local doctor, or a designated Covid-19 testing clinic, you must self-isolate until either advised by your doctor or you receive a SMS message from NSW Health Pathology advising you of the result of your test. Over the last few weeks, there have been an increase of positive Covid-19 cases confirmed as a result of people not affectively self-isolating from the time they go for the test, to when their results have been received. NSW Health has released a self-isolation guidelines document for people suspected to have Covid-19 and what process they should take to eliminate any potential spread of the virus. It covers common questions, such as: How long do I need to remain in isolation? What symptoms should I be monitoring? Am I allowed to go to work or school? Can I have visitors to my home? Can I go out in the garden? How do I separate myself from the home? When should I wear my mask? Do the members of my household need to also isolate? As well as tips for you and your family to help cope with home isolation. Click here to view the NSW Health Self-isolation Guidelines.
